The Game of Life

I was watching football with my husband last night. (Ahh, love!) The Dallas Cowboys (his favorite team) were playing the Green Bay Packers. The tenacity of Al Harris (of the Packers) caught my attention.
Harris was covering the irreverent Terrell Owens (T.O.) all night, and his attempts amounted to just being able to hold on, until he had his chance in the 4th quarter. Owens was in the end zone, having just caught the ball. But he quickly lost control, and the ball went flying (backwards) over his head and right into Harris’ hands.
Harris turned a whole night around with that interception. Every time he fell, he picked himself up, dusted himself off, and put himself back in the game. Not only was he in the right place at the right time — he was READY.
There’s a lot of rejection in this business… And sometimes it almost seems easier to just stop playing — but then I remember how far I’ve come, and that I’m not done playing yet.
And then I watch a professional like Harris play “all out” and I get inspired to step up my own game. The Packers did not win the game last night, but I’m sure that Al Harris got a good night’s sleep knowing he played his best, even when it was tough, until his tenacity paid off.
